Honda did come out with the GL1000 about the same time, but that was another bike that was never meant to be a sporty bike. It was a little more powerful than the CB750, but a whole lot heavier and complex. All these bikes have a classic look to them. The fork tubes that are on your bike are at least 3 inches longer than stock. You will need to buy a set of stock length fork tubes, you only need the chrome inners (stanchions). Find a CX500 forum and see if you can come up with a nice used set there. That will help save your budget.
